Arc of Burlington County Hosts Alternative Break Students From Central Michigan University

It’s the end of the fall semester, college finals are over, and now it’s time for students to head home for some much needed R&R and holiday spirit, right? Well, hold on now. Not so fast. If you’re a student from Central Michigan University – CMU -the only place you’re heading after finals is to New Jersey, never mind home!

That was the case on Saturday, December 14th, when an adventurous group of 11 CMU students packed their vans with air mattresses, sleeping bags and suitcases to make the trek to Burlington County, NJ, in time to start working for a full week with our Learn-A-Way Developmental Day Care children in Hainesport, adults from our Lumberton and Delran Adults Day Programs, and at the Githins Center in Mt. Holly.

While they were here, a reporter from the BURLINGTON COUNTY TIMES interviewed and photographed them for a flattering article which made its way back to CMU via social media and created some campus stars!

In between volunteering hours, the group lodged at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Evesham. Then, on Friday, December 20th, after finishing up at the Lumberton Day Program, they all set off for New York City to see the tree, the sights, and the store windows and brave the holiday crowds they may not get a chance to experience anytime soon before heading back to their respective homes in time for the holidays. Great job, you guys. Thanks for being here!
